SUMMERSIDE, Prince Edward Island, Canada
                             History of Commerce

For centuries Summerside, www.city.summerside.pe.ca has
been known as the main centre in Prince Edward Island in which to do
business.

From before confederation, businessmen from far and wide considered
Summerside the Fox Industry capital of the world and one of the major
shipbuilding ports on the east coast.

Recently, it gained the reputation as Canada’s busiest potato shipping
port and a key International aerospace centre.

In the mid 1990’s the Federal government chose Summerside as the
location for its national headquarters for processing taxes, and today
this operation is located in one of the largest and most modern
buildings in the country.

The emphasis on commerce, not politics, coupled with some of the
cleanest and most beautiful surroundings in Eastern Canada makes
Summerside an ideal location for meetings and conventions.

                             Proud To Be Green

Summerside has good reason to boast it is one of the greenest cities
in Canada. From Green Park on the picturesque waterfront to the lush
forest of rotary Park at north of the city, Summerside has 12 day parks
and nine sports fields.

Designated as the official start of the Confederation Trail in Canada,
nature paths branch out from the centre of the city towards each end of
the province.

Baywalk is a 4.67 km long boardwalk that traverses the city waterfront,
past parks, shopping facilities, and has an unique visitor’s complex
sitting on stilts over the water.

The Silver Fox Curling and Yatch Club has hosted numerous events and
competitions including yatching - Canada Games 2009 in August 2009.

Plans are in the works to create a city-wide bicycle route, hybrid vehicle
shuttle bus system, and a park-and-ride facility to reduce greenhouse
gas emissions.

For the past twelve years Summerside has been participating in a Waste
Watch program with all the residents and businesses separating their
compost, recyclable and waste materials.

                      Clean and Healthy Environment

The pride of  Summerside is the new Credit Union Place, a $38m state-of-
the-art complex that includes:

two swimming pools, two sports arenas with seating for 3,800 people,
meeting rooms, eight lane bowling complex, a spa, a walking track and a
fitness centre.

Sports have been a big part of Summerside’s history. With three lighted
ball fields, the city has hosted many national and international events.
Three National Hockey League teams have held training camp or
exhibition games in Summerside.

In addition to enjoying activity and fitness, Summerside is fortunate to
have a new hospital with all the major amenities of a large centre, a new
medical centre and two new senior citizen manors in the process.

Summerside's fresh, clean air, easy access and unhurried pace makes it
the perfect location to give  visitors a pleasant and relaxing experience.

causing industry.
