Designated as the official start of the Confederation Trail in Canada, nature paths branch out from the centre of the city towards each end of the province.
Baywalk is a 4.67 km long boardwalk that traverses the city waterfront, past parks, shopping facilities, and has an unique visitor’s complex sitting on stilts over the water.
The Silver Fox Curling and Yatch Club has hosted numerous events and competitions including yatching - Canada Games 2009 in August 2009.
Plans are in the works to create a city-wide bicycle route, hybrid vehicle shuttle bus system, and a park-and-ride facility to reduce greenhouse gas emissions.
For the past eleven years Summerside has been participating in a Waste Watch program with all the residents and businesses separating their compost, recyclables and waste materials.

The pride of Summerside is the new Credit Union Place, a $38m state-of-the-art complex that includes:
two swimming pools, two sports arenas with seating for 3,800 people, meeting rooms, eight lane bowling complex, a spa, a walking track and a fitness centre.
Sports have been a big part of Summerside’s history. With three lighted ball fields, the city has hosted many national and international events. Three National Hockey League teams have held training camp or exhibition games in Summerside.
